In order to eradicate fake and fraud licenses, the Centre will now link driving license with an Aadhaar number. The Supreme Court informed about the same that software for this is now in process for all States.
Justices of Supreme Court, Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta were informed about it by a court-appointed committee on road safety headed by former SC judge Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan.
The committee said that a meeting was held last year, in November with the joint secretary of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to discuss problems related to transport safety and also procurement of fake licenses in order to eliminate it.
On this issue, joint secretary of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed that National Informatics Centre is currently preparing ‘Sarthi-4’ under which all the licenses would be linked to Aadhaar. Even the software will not let anyone to get a fake license anywhere in the country.
Moreover, Pinky Anand, who is an Additional Solicitor General, told the Bench that India’s fatalities in road accidents have gone down by around three percent in 2017 as compared to 2016.
Also, on a precaution measure, road safety education and counseling will be made a part of school curriculum by the State boards from April 1, 2018.
