Rahul opens up on special status to Andhra at Delhi protest

Yesterday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi opened up about Andhra issue on special package. He said that a united opposition can force the Narendra Modi government to give a special financial package to AP to compensate for the losses it suffered following the state’s division in 2014.

He uttered these words at a protest gathering that was impromptu. It was arranged by the MPs from Andhra at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. Rahul also said that if Congress comes to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, it would give the central government package to Andhra as promised during bifurcation.

The protest had Left and YSR Congress, who were also demonstrating and seeking a special category status for the state. Rahul Gandhi tweeted on the issue that, “This afternoon, I joined the protests at Jantar Mantar demanding ‘Special Status’ for Andhra Pradesh. It is my belief that if the opposition stands united on this issue, we can force the BJP government to do justice to the people of Andhra”

He, at the event, said that he will convince the government and Narendra Modi to give what is due to the people of Andhra Pradesh. “We are with the people of Andhra. Our stance has been very very clear. We are for special category status of Andhra,” Gandhi said.
