Telangana home department officials suspected that CM KCR may have Maoist threat on his life. Hence, they decided to beef up security for chief minister by procuring a new bulletproof bus worth Rs 7 crore, for his district tours, after Maoists threatened to target TRS leaders following the killing of ten guerrillas in an encounter on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border last week.
The proposal to procure the completely bullet-proof bus is reportedly being looked into by the state’s Transport department. The vehicle is to be used by the CM for touring the state.
In 2015, KCR already had a bullet proof Mercedes Benz bus that was procured at a cost of Rs 4 crore. This current bus will have more security features so that he can host meetings while traveling. The committee is said to look into all the required features of the new bullet and mine proof bus and will send the proposal to GAD for final approval.
In 2016, the Telangana Chief Minister moved into ‘Pragathi Bhavan’, which comprised of the CM’s residence and office. Spread over 9 acres, the bungalow has bullet proof windows, a mini-auditorium, a large office space and is guarded like a fortress.
